Edit- I was going to try to do a “Little known gems” series spotlighting little known films that catch my eye, but that never came to fruition. So i will just file this under “reviews” instead
The story has 4 main characters, who at first have individual plotlines but by the end of the movie all there plotlines end up coming together. The story has 2 major twists, which i think were well executed. The characters are all interesting, though one of them might be a bit frustrating to viewers until you get her full backstory. The story is evenly paced, not too fast but not too slow either.
The first character i will talk about is Jonathan. He appears to be a masked vigilante in a cyberpunki-ish city looking to kill a man called The Individual. At first he seems to be in a totally separate place from the other 3 main characters(the other 3 characters are in London), and when i first watched it i was wondering how his story could connect with the others, but it does in the end. I don’t want to say how since i would consider that a major spoiler. Jonathan is played by Ryan Phillipe, who i didn’t actually notice the first time watching it. He gives a great performance, one that reminded me of Christian bale’s portrayal of Batman.
The next character i will talk about is Milo. When the movie begins, his girlfriend has just broken up with him. Early in the movie he see’s a childhood friend named Sally. While i don’t want to spoil anything, this does not end the way you might expect. This character is played by Sam Riley the 2nd. He is probably a unknown to most, but he still gives a strong performance
The third character i will cover is Emilia. She is a frustrated artist who when the movie begins harbors deep resentment towards her mother. And her art…odd to say(it involves suicide attempts). She is a character that i think some viewers may find frustrating until her full backstory is revealed. She is played by Eva Green, who’s most popular role so far has been Vesper in Casino Royale(not saying its her only good role, just the one that i think is most familiar to audiences). Curiously, she also plays Sally. She plays both parts perfectly, and i didn’t even notice it was the same actress until my dad pointed out to me.
The last main character is Peter, a father searching for his son. It is through his quest that we get hints at the twist involving Jonathan. He is portrayed by Bernard Hill. He probably isn’t known to most people, but he gives a fine performance.
Overall, a enjoyable flick, and one worth recommending IMO. Well, that’s my review. Not sure how well i did considering i’ve never written a full review before, but i tried my best.
